Türkiye and Syria: Geçmiş Olsun

Our Muslim brothers and sisters in Türkiye and Syria are suffering.

As fellow Muslims, we should feel their pain as we feel our own, and extend help and support through all possible means.

Take a moment to make dua for the departed souls. Anyone who dies after being crushed under a falling wall is a martyr. So, In sha Allah the deceased will be enjoying honorable provision from their Rabb. Let’s all make dua that Allah increases them in favor.

Make dua for the families of the deceased. May Allah grant them beautiful patience – Sabrun Jameel – to deal with such a huge loss.

Donate to reliable organizations that are helping our brothers and sisters in Türkiye and Syria.

Also, let us take this calamity as a reminder, humble ourselves, and reflect. Allah SWT says: “Why then, did they not supplicate in humility when a calamity from Us came upon them? Instead, their hearts were hardened and Satan adorned for them what they were doing.” [Quran 6:43]

Let’s allow this devastating calamity shake our hearts and shatter the glass of indifference that covers it. Let’s not just scroll but reflect also. We can start by taking the following steps:

Increase in Istighfar. This earthquake should be a reminder of how fragile our lives are. We are safe only until the earth starts shaking. And when it does, none can protect us except Allah. So, let’s turn to Allah SWT, repent, ask for forgiveness and protection.

Remember, calamities often come not when evil increases, but when the good retreats. So, forbid evil and enjoin good, wherever you go.

Learn, understand and recite duas Prophet SAW taught us.

رَبِّ إِنِّى ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِى فَٱغْفِرْ لِى

My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself. So forgive me.

اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ وَلاَ تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ

O Allah, do not kill us with Your wrath, and do not destroy us with Your punishment, and pardon us before that

May Allah SWT give the best of rewards to the deceased, ease the difficulty of the survivors, and guide us to mend our ways and repent.
