Just as the recitation of the Quran is the hallmark of Ramadan, Dhikr is the hallmark of the blessed days of Dhul Ḥijjah.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
“There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days,” meaning the (first) ten days of Dhul- Hijjah. They said: “O Messenger of Allah! Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah?” He said: “Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah, unless a man goes out with himself and his wealth and does not bring anything back.” [Ibn Majah – 1727]
Tahlil | Tasbih | Tahmid | Takbir |
There is no God but Allah. | Glory be to Allah. | All Praises be to Allah. | Allah is the Greatest. |
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
“Indeed what you remember of Allah’s Glory (by uttering) tasbīḥ, takbīr, tahlīl and taḥmīd, gather around the Throne of Allah, buzzing like bees, mentioning to Allah the person who uttered them. Do you not wish to have someone who mentions you by Him?” [Ibn Majah]
Dua for the 9th-13th of Dhul Hijjah
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd.
“Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and all praises are for Allah only.”
Seeking Forgiveness — One of the Best Forms of Ibadah
Rabbanaa zalamnaaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna
minal khaasireen
“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and do not bless us with mercy, we shall, indeed, be among the losers. [Quran 7:23]
For the Muslim Ummah
“Our Lord, do not make us a victim of the unjust people, and save us, through Your mercy, from the disbelieving people.” [Quran 1:85-86]
Manifesting Humility
Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir
“My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.”
[Quran 28:24]
