Dark clouds, cool wind, and the sweet smell of wet sand – what comes to mind when you read all of this? Monsoon? That’s right!
Monsoon is all about beautiful weather, scenic skies, and of course a plate of hot pakoray as soon as it starts raining.
But as you pull out your wipers to make sure there’s no water sitting on the roof and decide where the laundry is going to dry as it rains, take a moment to reflect on whether the rainy season should be all about enjoyment or if we can take it as an opportunity to get close to Allah SWT?
Rain is considered a blessing from our Merciful Rabb. And as Allah’s blessing and mercy descend from the sky above, we know that the duas we make ascend towards the heavens and reach Allah SWT with high chances of acceptance. Why not capitalize on this moment and make the duas that you yearn to be accepted?
The Monsoon season can also be an exciting time to take small breaks here and there and use them to reflect on Allah’s creations, His Laws, and of course, His signs.
Moreover, since Allah’s mercy is already and quite literally raining down on us, we can also seize this opportunity to increase in seeking Allah’s forgiveness and repent for the sins we have committed. Because this is a time when duas are readily accepted, we might come out of the monsoon season as clean and fresh as the leaves are after a good rain spell.
As we enjoy the rainy season and prepare our dua lists for it, we also need to remember that Allah SWT has destroyed many nations by sending clouds. This is why our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to say this dua as soon as he saw clouds approaching:
اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا
O Allah, may it be a beneficial rain
Let’s not forget to ask Allah SWT for a beneficial rain as we prepare for the monsoon season ahead. Moreover, as some of us sit near our windows, waiting for the clouds to pour all the water they have been carrying, many others like us are hoping the rain doesn’t destroy their homes this time or the rainwater doesn’t electrocute another loved one.
So, as the clouds of monsoon roll around, let’s remember our brothers and sisters in our duas and ask Allah to make this rain beneficial for everyone it descends upon, beg for forgiveness, make lots of duas, and of course, enjoy our chai with some garam pakoray.
