The Epitome Of Devotion & Sacrifice:Prophet Ibrahim (AS)

“And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them……….”

[Quran 2:124]

Tested Through His Own Father

“[His father] said, “Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so avoid me a prolonged time.” [Quran 19:46]

The Great Fire

“They said, “(O people) burn him and help your gods, if you are to take action. [Quran 21:68]

Leaving His Family In The Middle Of Nowhere

Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated,

“He (Ibrahim) made them sit over there (near the Ka’bah) and placed near them a leather bag containing some dates, and a small water-skin containing some water, and he set out homeward. Ismail’s mother followed him saying, “O Ibrahim! Where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no person whose company we may enjoy, nor is there anything (to enjoy)?” She repeated that to him many times, but he did not look back at her. Then she asked him, ”Has Allah ordered you to do?” He said, “Yes”. She said, ”Then He will not neglect us“, and returned, while Ibrahim proceeded onwards…” [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]

Sacrifice of His Beloved Son, Prophet Ismail (AS)

“Thereafter, when he (the boy) reached an age in which he could work with him, he (Ibrāhīm) said, “O my little son, I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you, so consider, what is your opinion?” He said, “O my dear father, do what you have been ordered to do. You will find me, inshā’allah , (if Allah wills) one of those who endure patiently.” [Quran 37:102]

Throughout the Quran, numerous passages highlight the severe trials Prophet Ibrahim (AS) endured. Only after successfully overcoming these challenges did he prove himself worthy to be a spiritual guide and leader for all humanity. From the time the truth was revealed to him until his death, Prophet Ibrahim (AS)’s life was marked by constant sacrifice and suffering for his faith. He relinquished every conceivable object of human affection and attachment for the sake of Allah (SWT).

Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it.

[Quran 3:92]

We often give generously to charity, a profound act of sacrifice. As Allah (SWT) mentions in the Quran, humans have a natural love for wealth. But for Gen Z, our most cherished possessions often extend beyond money. Therefore, this year along with monetary charity, let’s take things a step further.

Here’s Your Challenge!

Sacrifice Beyond Wealth

Think about that precious watch you adore, your favourite pair of shoes, that delicate bracelet, or even your essential branded protein powder. Let’s aim to sacrifice something deeply personal and close to our hearts, beyond wealth.

Imagine the impact of giving up something you truly love in the way of Allah (SWT).

This year, let’s come together to make this Dhul Hijjah more special, one effort a day. #AZilhajjToRemember
