Top 7 things I like about Pakistani Weddings

Pakistani #shaadis are a whirlwind of emotions, laughter, glitter, glam, and memories rekindled. The wedding season feels like a whole era of being surrounded by love, joy, and a bit of chaos (okay, maybe a whole lot of chaos!).

From spending hours figuring out how to drape that chiffon dupatta to enduring endless miles of travel and negotiating with the catering uncle, these moments remind us why we love our weddings so much.

And just like we covered the top seven things we dislike about Pakistani weddings, today we’re highlighting everything we adore. Let’s dive into the moments that make it all worth it!

1. Nikah in the Masjid

There’s something profoundly serene about attending a Nikah in the Masjid. It’s a moment that makes you reflect on the sacredness of the bond and the beauty of the relationship. Alhamdulillah, more and more young couples are choosing to tie the knot in the Masjid.

2. The Awesome Khutbah

Nikah khutbahs may feel routine, often due to our limited understanding of Arabic. But when you truly understand what’s being said, they make you reflect and think, “Wow, marriage is a serious commitment!” Real talk mixed with heartfelt reminders about your duties to Allah (SWT) and your spouse? Yes, please. You leave not just inspired but spiritually fulfilled—like your soul just had its own little feast!

3. Tiny Humans in Ghararas & Three-Piece Suits

Don’t you just love them? They are cuteness personified; and the way they pop out from underneath the tables is just adorable. In a sea of adults decked out in makeup, forced smiles, awkward hairdos, and uncomfortable heels, their genuine innocence is a refreshing breath of fresh air.

4. Bumping into a Long-Lost Friend

They say it’s a small world, and weddings prove it. That Grade 4 classmate? Check. Your childhood neighbor? Double check. If you’re on the bride’s guest list, chances are they’re on the groom’s. In most cases, these run-ins are very pleasant and nostalgic—catching up, swapping numbers, and marveling at life’s by-chance encounters.

5. The Teary Rukhsati

We, Pakistanis, are very emotional beings. Yet, we save our most heartfelt expressions of love for rukhsati. From a dad quietly wiping tears to siblings sharing awkward hugs, it’s raw, real, and undeniably beautiful. (Quick PSA: Holding the Mushaf over the bride’s head? Not from Sunnah! So, brothers of brides, you can safely skip this practice).

6. The Mehndi

No, I don’t mean the Mehndi functions. I mean the henna itself. The color, the fragrance, the designs, and the way it stains your hands just right—it’s a whole vibe! After Eid, a wedding is the second-best excuse to apply Mehndi. It also makes the memory of the event last for a good ten days.

7. The Food: Where Diets Go to Die

Last but not least, the delicious food. Isn’t this why most people attend weddings in the first place? From steaming biryani to Kashmiri chai and the unbeatable classic—gajar ka halwa. What more could you wish for in a chilly wedding season?
